Yesterday started early with a run out at the Greenbelt north of town with a group of trail runners, things were a little more splashy than last time we were out there since we’ve gotten even more rain since then. I ended up with 12.5 miles on the day but as things started getting colder and the wind picked up, we decided to call it there.

We had our annual DARC club meeting where officers and goals for the year were settled on. Hopefully things with Knob Hills will get dried out and solidified because right now the lake is back up to 4’ over flood stage and it is sloppy as fuck, at least the stuff above water is.

Last night was the 7th Spiderweb Salon Winter Formal and the show was pretty fantastic! I took it easy this time around and just helped build the frame for the spiderweb photo op. I had the opportunity to chat with Caitlin, Autumn, Conor, Matty, Jacob and Leah and some other folks. I also ran into Violet who was my student teacher a few years ago and traded puppy pics.

Highlights of the show for me were the return of Forever and Everest (damn, that boy Conor can sing), Ryan Creery and his killer boots and Chelsea Fiddyment in from Chicago. Chelsea did a really fun thing which was to ask the audience to watch her performance on our phones. It took me a minute to process why that was such an effective way to get the audience to focus on the performance and I finally decided it was probably because it is very hard for the audience to mess around on their phones when they have already committed to watching on the screen.

The last performance of the evening was an experimental reading/music mashup featuring Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam and Miguel Espinel. Really innovate sound work and one of the most consistently prolific writers in our community founded things out.

A rep from DMAC was also at the show to talk about the mental health initiative that Spiderweb and DMAC are partners on. The stereotype of the melancholy artists is cute and all but if we are all either crippled by mental illness or dead…there is a lot less art in the world.

Today, taking it easy. It’s cold and I’m making pizza!
